What in the world has Joanna been up to?? It’s certainly been a long while since I updated my blog! So here’s the latest in Joanna Marie Art news!
Not of Blood/Like Family
The concept for this series came about when I saw a call for artists for a show at New City Studio, to be held in November. I had a few weeks, so I thought perhaps I could create a few new pieces for the show.
I really wanted to play around with the idea of animals that seemed ‘like family’ but not of blood – who look similar but aren’t actually related. I’m planning to continue!
The bottom two here can be seen throughout November at New City Studio.
Here’s a couple pictures of me with my art at the show!
What’s 11x14 Anyways??
I’ve been working on my website, fixing up the portfolio pages, adding more products to the store, and realized that I needed to have some way to show what the actual sizes of my artwork look like, since the average person isn’t constantly surrounded by artwork in specific paper and canvas sizes. Here are a few photos from the impromptu shoot I did with my husband this morning before church! I’ll probably redo the photoshoot at some point with a professional photog, but these were fun!
Back At It!
I’m back to working on Sugar Hair and Fierce Females, two series of a similar style, though slightly different subject matter. Here are my two most recent pieces!
Nakia from Black Panther
I thought this was a great leap back into ‘Fierce Females’! Really looking forward to continuing this series.
The next Sugar Hair piece. I did a licorice one before and never thought it was really the best it could be, so I’ve redone her and looooove this version!
Upcoming Events & News
As I said above, I’m showing at New City Studio for the rest of November, and will be attending an artists’ reception on November 16, from 6 – 9pm. I hope to see you there!
I’m working on a few events for early next year, including a possible solo show, so be sure to keep your eyes out for that!
I have always felt a need to create art. It’s a vital method for me to express my thoughts and dreams. I’m currently focusing on dual portraits of people with animals, working to expand our collective definition of beauty and create a space of calm reflection in the midst of the inevitable stresses of life.
